Dr. Tiva Sharifi
![]() My interest in science dates back to my early childhood. I have always liked physics and right after high school I started a bachelor program in my origin country, Iran, majoring in solid state physics. In 2009, I joined Prof. Thomas Wågberg group at Umeå University, Sweden, for my master thesis which inspired me to undertake a greater challenge in pursuing a doctorate degree in physics. As a post-graduate student, I specifically worked on the synthesis and structural analysis of doped carbon nanotubes.
I continued working in Thomas Wågberg group as a PhD candidate from February 2011, focusing on the doped carbon nanostructures for energy applications. In the last year I mainly focused on designing direct electrode materials based on hybrid material out of carbon nanomaterial/metal oxides for oxygen reduction reaction, water splitting and Li-ion batteries. During these years I have learned that there are several things which make a person happy. Beside science, I enjoy traveling, being with family and friends and of course I love coffee.
